Lying just north of the Chiltern Hills, Aylesbury is a place of surprising contrasts, a lively marketplace steeped in history – a suburb where old complements new.
It was here author Roald Dahl drew inspiration for his wonderful children’s stories and Henry VIII wooed Anne Boleyn, but that’s not Aylesbury’s only claim to fame. In January 1964 the town’s name was echoed across the globe when press coverage headlined the story of the notorious great train robbery. It was in the courthouse before Judge Edmund Davis that the audacious robbers were tried and sentenced.
Shopping
Friars Square and Hale Leys offer shoppers a delightful alternative to the usual hustle and bustle of town centre shopping, both are undercover and house high street retailers including Next, BHS, Laura Ashley and many more.
On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays stalls embellish the cobbled market square, Tuesday is flea market day and every fourth Tuesday a farmers’ market is held.
Property
There are plenty of listed period properties in the parish, many house original features giving the residential heart of the town a particular charm all its own. Edwardian and Victorian homes can be found around the Grand Union Canal to the south with a recent development, Fairford Leys, to the west.

Although the local housing market is not as buoyant as it has been in previous years properties are still selling and great bargains are available for buyers in strong positions.’
A two bedroom flat will cost from £140,000 and a three bedroom family home can start from as little as £175,000.
Transport
With a fast train service into London and excellent road links commuting is easy. A second railway station is under construction to serve the soon-to-be-built Berryfields area. Major expansion plans are earmarked for the town with new homes and community developments planned...
