A new website has just been launched by a Chilterns couple to put discerning buyers in touch with genuine craftspeople and to advise them how to go about commissioning special pieces of furniture. Following their own problems trying to commission a display cabinet for their collection of Limoges boxes, Serena and Stephen Coulson from Seer Green decided to take action. The result is a website that contains several helpful, reader-friendly articles covering the commissioning process.
There is also a comprehensive, nationwide directory and craftsmen can be searched for by town, county, various materials and the room in which the furniture will feature.
A number of local companies are featured in the Buckinghamshire section of the directory including St Giles Furniture, Darren Tyson Fine Furniture and Richard Williams. Additionally, in the Berkshire section, there are currently 12 furniture makers.
